Forklift training In Leeds
We’ve been providing forklift driver training courses Leeds for over 35 years. And we understand only too well the risks associated with forklifts.
According to the Health & Safety Executive, 43 people are injured by forklifts every week in the UK. A fatality occurs every six weeks. That’s why professional forklift certification isn’t just important – it’s a legal requirement.
Forklifts can be one of the most dangerous pieces of equipment in the workplace. That’s why in addition to new and used forklifts for hire or sale, we also offer forklift driver training courses for Leeds and Yorkshire businesses.

Our forklift training courses are:
- Suitable for beginners through to experienced forklift drivers.
- Tailored to your specific learning requirements and budget.
- Delivered by our in-house forklift training instructor, who is RTITB-registered
- Carried out at our Leeds forklift driver training centre.
- OR carried out at your site if more convenient.
Our forklift training courses
We offer a full range of forklift courses to suit your team:
Novice forklift training
Perfect for first-time operators. Includes theory, pre-use checks and practical training over 3–5 days at our centre (or 2–3 days on-site). Ends with both a theory and driving test.
Refresher forklift courses
Recommended every 3–5 years to keep skills sharp and compliant. Our refresher forklift courses can be completed in one day, for up to three candidates.
Heavy forklift training
Operating a forklift over five tonnes? Additional training is required. Depending on your existing certification, a conversion course may be suitable.
Conversion and reach truck training
Moving to a different type of truck, like a reach truck? You’ll need specific conversion training – we offer this to ensure your drivers are fully certified and confident.
Counterbalance forklift training
Most of our standard training is based on counterbalance forklift training – the most commonly used type of forklift in UK warehouses. Courses are available for all skill levels.
On-site or at our place – your choice
Training can be carried out:
- At our fully equipped forklift driver training centre in Leeds
- As on-site forklift training in Leeds or anywhere in West Yorkshire – ideal for teams learning on familiar ground
On-site forklift training is convenient, time-saving and tailored to your environment. It also helps spot real-life hazards and reinforce safe working practices.

Forklift training FAQs
Do I need a licence to drive a forklift?
There’s no official “forklift licence” in the UK, but employers must ensure operators are trained by an accredited instructor. We issue certificates recognised across the industry – ideal for anyone looking for forklift licence training.
How long does training take?
Novice forklift training courses take 3–5 days at our centre, or 2–3 days on-site. Refresher forklift courses are typically one day. Conversion courses depend on experience.
Do I need separate training for a reach truck?
Yes. A counterbalance certificate doesn’t cover reach trucks. You’ll need reach truck training to operate both.
Can you train us on-site?
Absolutely. We offer on-site forklift training across Leeds and West Yorkshire.
How soon can I book training?
Course availability depends on trainer schedule and location. Get in touch with Moorgate directly for current lead times.
How many people can be trained at once?
Refresher forklift courses are limited to three candidates per day, but group size for other forklift courses may vary depending on whether it’s held at our site or yours.
What if my forklift certification has expired?
There’s no official expiry, but the HSE recommends refresher forklift training every 3–5 years to keep skills sharp and compliant.
