For over three decades now, we have been delivering first-class forklift solutions and a comprehensive range of services to our valued customers. Today, we’re taking a trip down memory lane as we look back over the history of Moorgate, celebrating the great achievements that have helped shape Moorgate into the business it is today.

The history of Moorgate

Moorgate Forklifts was originally founded in 1986 and our current Managing Director Neil Brook officially took the helm in 1995. Since then, Moorgate has expanded into the successful operation it is today.

While our overall offering hasn’t changed too much, the size of the business certainly has. Since our inception, we were based in Yeadon, and we successfully expanded and moved to our current base in Rothwell in 2007. This growth has allowed us to become a highly competitive name in the forklift world, and today we can confidently say we’re the premier forklift company in West Yorkshire.

Forklifts haven’t changed too much physically since Moorgate was formed, but we’ve seen enormous leaps in technology since then. Electronics have advanced massively, and over the years we’ve seen forklifts become a lot more efficient, with lithium batteries as well as lead acid batteries. As a team, we know how important it is to keep our fingers on the pulse of forklift technology, and doing exactly that has played a crucial role in securing our place in the industry as true forklift experts.

 

The Moorgate story has not been without its challenges, however. As a company, we’ve navigated some difficult times, but we’ve always emerged stronger. We faced and survived the recession in 2008, and like all businesses today, were impacted by the unprecedented disruptions caused by Covid-19. A huge part of the strength of Moorgate is our ability to weather challenges, and thanks to the strength of our team we’re proud to be stronger than ever.

Unrivalled expertise 

There are a few things that set Moorgate apart from the competition. The expertise within our team is a huge part of our success. We currently have three engineers and are on the lookout for another two. A strong team of engineers enables us to work reactively on breakdowns, and proactively with regular servicing for our customer’s machines.

Forklift hire is a big part of what we do, too. We have our own large fleet of machines, which means we’re always able to react quickly and efficiently to short-notice hire requests. For many of our customers, hiring a forklift makes a lot more financial sense than purchasing one, particularly if it’s needed for seasonal peaks. We offer trucks to hire for periods between several days or even months, and we always work closely with our customers to ensure they’re getting the machines they need to keep their operations running smoothly.

Driver training is another area in which we excel. We have a dedicated Training Manager, Trevor, within the team. With his experience and expertise, Trevor is perfectly placed to visit our customer’s operations in person and deliver in-house training to staff.

Standing the test of time

We’re proud to look back over the history of Moorgate and see just how much the business has gone from strength to strength over the years. When asked about why Moorgate has stood the test of time over the last 30 years, Courtney Brook, our Operations Manager, had this to say.

But we’re also established enough that we can provide a consistent and varied service, making sure all our customer’s needs are met.”
